Founded by 6 students who are senior business majors at Birmingham-Southern College

 

​OUR MISSION:

Southern butter’s mission is to satisfy each customer with a unique and creative flavor twist on our homemade peanut butter.

 

Alexa Ruiz, CEO:
Alexa has developed a combination of skills through her past experiences. As a Hess Fellow intern at the Mobile Area Education Foundation, Alexa learned a great deal on the management and practices of non-profit businesses. She also interned at the Organic Harvest, a local organic grocery store, giving her experience in the all-natural food industry.

Whitney Smith, CFO-sales:
Whitney has gained important financial skills through her past experience. She interned at Western Supermarkets Main Office, mainly with the office’s financial and accounting departments. She also is trained to perform free tax preparation services through Impact Alabama.

David Olsen, CFO-bookkeeping:
David has leadership experience with his position as a Hall Director for an all male freshman dorm and as a Hess Fellow intern at the Alabama Poverty Project. With his past internship and his intensive Birmingham-Southern classes, David has developed impressive bookkeeping skills.

Chelsey LaRussa, Marketing Coordinator:
Chelsey has developed key marketing skills with her past internships. She worked at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in the governmental relations department, concentrating on social media. She also interned at the Railroad Park Foundation, working on marketing and non-profit projects.

Ralls Pennington, COO-butter boy:
Ralls is the mind behind southern butter. His connections in the peanut butter business community has helped him become an expert in understanding what the costumers want and need. His extra curricular activities, such as being a member of the Birmingham-Southern Baseball team, have given him many skills to help a team work as a cohesive unit.

Asher Kitchings, COO-butter boy:
Asher has gained important operational skills with his past work experience and extra curricular activities. As the past SAE president of the Alabama Lota Chapter, Asher perfected his communication and leadership skills. He interned at Bradley Arant as a summer clerk, learning even more skills dealing with the operational side of a business.
